Starting
from 13 July 2008, a radio program - Hong Kong Ki Shaam
was jointly launched by RTHK Radio 3 and the
Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Bureau, Hong Kong SAR
to promote multi-culturism in Special Administrative
Region. It also aims at strengthening the sense of
belonging of the ethnic minorities in Hong Kong,
but at the same time retaining their cultural identities
and differences. This is in continuation with the
earlier Urdu radio show Hong Kong Ki Shaam Pakistan Kay Naam launched on Metro Radio Hong Kong in November 2004
which ended in June 2005 and was re-launched on
Commercial Radio Hong Kong as Hong Kong Ki Shaam Aap Kay
Naam from June 18, 2005.
The program is hosted by Mr. Abid Ali Baig, who is a
poet, writer and a banker by profession, has an
experience of broadcasting for over 35 years in
Pakistan, Kenya and Hong Kong. The programs
comprise mainly music, news, sports, Urdu literature,
poetry, current affairs and community services related
to the respective ethnic group; local celebrities from
the ethnic group are also invited to talk about their
own culture and their assimilation into the Hong Kong
community.
The program is among the government initiatives to
enhance the ethnic minorities' sense of belonging to
Hong Kong while retaining their own cultural identities.
An equally important objective is to promote multi-culturalism
in Hong Kong. |
